Welcome to Middle Grades Math!
My goal is for all students to be successful... keep reading for some tips on how you can help to make that happen!
FIVE QUALITIES OF A SUCCESSFUL STUDENT
Come to class prepared. Set up your materials for class so that you can keep your assignments and notes in order and grab exactly what you need at a moments notice. Use your AGENDA... make use of the tools that you have to keep yourself organized. Write down due dates of assignments, projects, and assessment dates. All unit assessments will be announced at least 1 week in advance. You will need the following for class each day:
- completed assignments
- pencil(s) with eraser
(Only pencil will be used on all assignments and assessments. The use of colored pencil or ink pen will result in lowering of your grade.)
2. TIME MANAGEMENT
There are only so many hours in a day and there are many commitments that each of us juggle in those precious hours. Set aside time each day to complete assignments and review any new material. Studying for a few minutes each day will prove to be more beneficial to you than cramming the night before a quiz or unit assessment. Use your time in class wisely, as well!
Not like a husband and wife engagement, but the kind of engagement where students take an active role in their learning process. ASK QUESTIONS! Correct your mistakes and clear up any confusion before it's too late! If you don't want to ask me, ask another student (but I promise I don't bite). There will be lots of discussion, as well as partner and group activities. The more you participate, the more you will contribute to your own success.
NEVER GIVE UP!!! If what we do in class, after school, and at home in assignments and projects is just not cutting it for you, do more! Come to me. Don't wait until it is too late for me to help you. However, I can only help you if you are giving your best effort. Work ethic is the key to determination.
Last, but not least, none of these other qualities matter if you are not in control of your own destiny. Be dedicated to your goals and push yourself to do things that are new, and maybe a little bit uncomfortable. Make one small change each day to work toward your goals. The definition of "INSANITY" is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Try something new... Do what it takes to be successful!
I promise that all of the hard work will pay off and I will be here to support you in any way I can!
